Nano ($XNO) is a digital currency created specifically for instant, feeless peer-to-peer payments. Originally launched in 2015 as RaiBlocks by Colin LeMahieu, the project set out to remove the common inefficiencies of traditional blockchains such as slow confirmations, high fees, and heavy energy consumption. Instead of using a single shared chain, Nano employs a unique block-lattice architecture where every account has its own blockchain. This design allows transactions to be processed independently and confirmed in well under a second.
Nano does not rely on mining or staking. It uses Open Representative Voting, a consensus mechanism that enables the network to remain secure while consuming minimal energy. All Nano coins are already in circulation, with a fixed maximum supply of 133,248,297 units, eliminating inflation. By focusing solely on efficient value transfer rather than complex features, Nano aims to function as practical digital cash suitable for everyday global use.
